Dr. Peters is full Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto. He has been a consultant/expert witness for six major corporations in the U.S. regarding breast implants. He has also been a consultant/expert witness in over 35 breast implant litigation cases in Canada and the U.S.
Dr. Walter Peters, PhD, MD, FRCSC

Dr. Peters has received numerous awards, both nationally and internationally. He was awarded the Mentor prize in 2000, for the most outstanding publication and presentation at the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgery annual meeting. This presentation was entitled “Management of the woman with silicone gel breast implants”. In 2003, he was again awarded the Mentor Prize for the most outstanding publication and presentation at the Canadian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery annual meeting. This presentation was entitled “The evolution of breast implants”.

In 2008, Dr. Peters was again awarded the Mentor Prize for the most outstanding publication and presentation at the Canadian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery annual meeting.  This presentation was entitled "Autoinflation of saline-filled inflatable breast implants".

In 2010, Dr. Peters was again awarded the Mentor Prize for the most oustanding publication and presentation at the Canadian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery annual meeting. This presenation was entitled "Complications from injectable material used for breast augmentation"

Dr. Peters has been awarded over $5 million in research funding. He has published over 160 papers and book chapters, and has presented papers at over 300 national and international meetings.

He is a consultant/advisor to the FDA, the Institute of Medicine, the National Academy of Science, the National Cancer Institute, and the FDA Public Education Project in Washington, D.C. He is also a member of Health Canada's Expert Panel on Breast Implants and Health Canada's Scientific Advisory Board.

In 2010, he was awarded the University of Toronto Crystal Award, for being the Course Director and Coordinator of the University of Toronto Annual Symposium on Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, for the past 20 years. This is the largest aesthetic Plastic Surgery Symposium in Canada. The University of Toronto has also dedicated the annual Dr. Walter Peters Visiting Professor Lecture in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
